PAIN: the pain you will feel is similar to when you have a tooth extracted, and can normally be soothed with painkillers/anti-inflammatory drugs. Avoid using drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid (type Aspirin) as they may hinder blood coagulation.
SWELLING: frequently apply ice packs on the cheek on the side where the implant was put in for the first hours after surgery. Sleep with your head raised on one or two pillows, especially the first couple of nights.
ANTIBIOTICS: these might be prescribed to prevent infections.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: avoid strenuous physical or sports activities in the first week after surgery.
SMOKING: do not smoke for one or two weeks before and for several months after surgery.
DIET: for the first few days, eat liquid and not too hot foods and avoid chewing on the side where the implant was put in.
ORAL HYGIENE: carry out normal oral hygiene and be particularly gentle on the part where the implant was put in until the gum has healed.
